DWI BLOG FROM A QUEENS DWI LAWYER: 10 TOP REASONS NOT TO DRINK AND DRIVE

On Behalf of | Nov 11, 2013 | DWI

1. You can hurt a stranger or a loved one, or even worse, cause their death by DWI.

2. You can hurt, or even worse, cause your own death.

3. You will be arrested if you are caught, and possibly face a criminal record for the rest of your life. Make no mistake about it; the Police are actively pursuing drunk drivers. It does not matter whether you are a professional, a blue collar worker, a student, or unemployed. The Police do not discriminate. You will be arrested if you are caught DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE.

4. Your New York State License will be suspended or revoked, or with recent changes in the law, repeat offenders with serious offense driving records, can even lose their license for good.

4. You may have to install an IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICE on your vehicle, or any other vehicle you own or operate. This can be a disaster, especially if you own or operate more than one car.

5. You may have to wear a SCRAM BRACELET DEVICE on your ankle, which monitors alcohol consumption. This is both embarrassing and very expensive.

6. You may have to do jail time. This can depend on a number of factors, including a prior record, whether there was an accident, how high you blew in the breathalyzer device, and even what county the case is pending, in which the case is pending.

7. You may be on probation for either 3 or 5 years depending on various factors, such as prior offenses for DWI, and whether or not there was a child in the car under the age of 15 years (LEANDRA’S LAW).

8. Your insurance rates will go sky high.

9. You may lose your job. This is especially true for taxi drivers (TLC Regulations), bus drivers, limo drivers, and similar occupations.

10. Your car will be marked for forfeiture. If you own the car you are driving at the time of your arrest for DWI, your car will most likely be marked for forfeiture.

I probably can list another 10 reasons right off the top of my head, but I am hoping this Top 10 list will convince you not to drink alcohol and drive a motor vehicle. If you go out drinking, and you happen to have your car with you, take the advice of a Queens DWI Lawyer, and take a taxi home. It will be far more safe, and you will save a lot of money in the long run.
