Avoid a haunting DUI with these Halloween safety tips

Halloween is just around the corner, and as such, you probably know that there are likely to be more drunk drivers on the roads. With parties and events, people have easy access to alcohol. Some make a bad decision and get behind the wheel of a car when they should get a ride instead.

If you find that you’re one of those people, you can defend yourself and have a chance of reducing or eliminating the charges against you. In the meantime, here are some tips for staying safe on Halloween if you decide to drink.

1. Plan to ride share

The first thing you should do before a party where you plan to drink is to have the phone numbers of ride-share services, taxi services or others who can help you get home safely. If you plan to drink, plan not to drive.

2. Avoid heavy liquor

If you like to drink whiskey, bourbon or other heavy liquors, it’s best to take it easy if you plan to drive. Each shot has enough alcohol to shoot your blood alcohol content high, which could leave you above the limit. Try to wait one hour between the last drink and when you drive to be safe. Better yet, stick to beer or other low-alcohol-content drinks.

3. Keep an eye on your drinks

The last thing anyone wants to see is someone have his or her drinks spiked. Whether it’s someone slipping you a drug or adding extra alcohol to a drink, it’s dangerous and could lead to an unexpected DUI. Keep an eye on your drinks. If you have to walk away from it, order a new one.

These are a few tips to help you avoid a DUI on Halloween. Stay safe, get a ride and enjoy the night out.
